Book Review: Made In America – A Modern Collection of Classic Recipes by Megan Garrelts and Colby Garrelts Review by Dawn Thomas Andrews McMeel Publishing Pages 168 Isn’t is funny how good comfort food can be? When I saw the cover of this book with the fried chicken on the plate I think I began to drool. The theme of the book is family and traditions. The book is divided into meal categories and ends with metric conversions and equivalents. Daybreak includes a variety of recipes for breakfast. Several use white gravy as a base. Just looking at the pictures made me hungry. If I had to pick a favorite it would be a toss-up between the blueberry oat cake and the twist on chipped beef on toast. Adding spinach sounds amazing. The chapter “From the Cupboard and Garden” includes recipes for different sauces: hot, BBQ and steak. The BBQ dry rub is similar to the one we use regularly with the exception of the added peppers. It adds a little bit more of a bite. And who doesn’t love apple butter? The one included here has bourbon added for a buttery caramel flavor. There are also recipes for jams…
