Eytan is running away from the camp. The book jumps to Iraq 2003 and an attack on a Marine unit in a Humvee. Only one of the four soldiers make it. Next we find ourselves in present day New Jersey. Jeremy has opened a bookstore called Morg’s Universe. Jackie, in a deputy sheriff’s uniform, comes in to the store. She asks him to pick up the baby because she has to finish some paperwork. Jackie gets a strange telephone call about an impending attack with a code Model 2003. She knows immediately who is calling her. Jeremy has prepared dinner and is waiting for Jackie to come home when a computer geek arrives early to fix Jackie’s laptop. The book begins on an army base in Maryland in the year 1957. The base has a research center and laboratory. They conduct tests on subjects but there are certain levels in the building that remains off limits except for the highest security level. Someone released an airborne virus in the building and killed the scientists. We then find ourselves in 2011 in the Czech Republic and meet Branislav Poborsky, a journalist. On his way to visit his parents, police officers stop him. They explain the road is closed and he must turn around and go another way. He tries to call his parents but the calls are unable to be completed. He turns the car around and after going around a bend in the road pulls the car off onto the side of the road.
