Confidence can seem like a nebulous concept but it’s not out of your reach. It’s essentially the belief that you can achieve your goals and live your best life. But as great as having confidence is, it’s not so easy to achieve in reality. That’s where this article comes in.

Belladonna’s Books presents six simple ways to boost your confidence and improve your self-esteem. Because everyone deserves to live life on their own terms.

Live by your values

Confident people have a strong value system and they stick to it. It may require some introspection, but one of the best things you can do for your confidence is to identify and live by your values.

Sit down with a pen and paper and list out your core values. Perhaps you want to make the world a better place? Maybe you want to help others? Note these down and make a point to stick to them as best you can.

Stand up for yourself

Confident people aren’t doormats. They know their place in the world and don’t let others take advantage of them. If you’re going to boost your own confidence you must do the same.

When faced with conflict, approach the problem rationally but confidently. Don’t apologize for things that aren’t your fault. Conversely, if something is your fault, know when to take responsibility and own your fault.

Exercise

The health benefits of exercise are numerous but did you know a good workout can also boost your confidence? It’s all in the sense of achievement you get from accomplishing a task. Exercising also produces endorphins which can boost your overall mood.

If you’d rather exercise while spending some time outdoors, consider getting into camping and hiking. This way, you can enjoy nature while getting away from everyday stresses — the fresh air and exercise will do wonders for you!

Set goals

Confidence is all about accomplishment so one of the best ways to boost your confidence is to set yourself achievable goals, as Mind Tools points out. Sit down with a pad and paper and list out a few short and long-term goals. Make sure they’re snappy, effective, and achievable. You may opt to break bigger goals down into shorter, more manageable steps.

Your goals may be financial, professional, relational or somewhere in between … or all of the above. If financial, the goal you set may be as simple as saving $10 each month or as lofty as saving $1,000. Remember that it’s all doable if you break it down. Saving $10/month can be done simply by brewing your own coffee more often rather than purchasing it from a coffee shop whereas saving $1,000/month is within your reach if you opt to refinance your home.

On the professional side, to advance your career or give your earnings a boost you should contemplate going back to school for an advanced degree in a field that interests you. Taking college-level courses doesn’t have to be difficult or costly, especially if you choose to take online classes. At Western Governors University, for example, a six-month term costs just $4,530 in the MBA program, and scholarships are available. Completing classes and tests online allows you to continue with your life and work schedule.

Once done, don’t forget to monitor your progress towards your set goals.

Take care of your teeth

Our smile is often one of the first things people notice about us. As such, feeling self-conscious about your teeth is often a mood-killer.

Put in the hard yards to care for your teeth. Keep up a regular brushing and flossing schedule. Worried about your teeth being crooked? Try out a tooth aligner. These little beauties are designed to straighten your teeth gradually over time.

Tooth aligners are also a great way to boost your overall dental health. Straighter teeth are easier to clean, ensuring your brushing and flossing are properly effective.

Practice radical acceptance

PsychCentral notes that radical acceptance is a therapy tool that teaches you how to prioritize your worry. At its core is the principle that if something is out of your control, you ought to accept that and move on. This is especially important when it comes to worrying about how others perceive you.

Confident people don’t care what others think about them. They live their lives as they see fit without the worry of how they’re perceived. One of the best ways to boost your confidence is to do the same. Practice radical acceptance and understand that you can’t control how others think about you.

Confidence is attainable for anyone. You just have to believe in yourself and trust you’re on the right path. Now you know some tips and tricks for boosting your confidence.
