Ten-year-old Daniel and his father, Bill, are in Crete looking into the origins of a mysterious disk. It is old but how old. Bill is a professor of linguistics, and this is in no language he recognizes. This begins a seven-year dark descent to solve the mystery where people will do anything to reveal and/or hide the disks’ secrets. In the meantime, Daniel’s mother, Iona, is researching the mysterious disappearances of people around the world.

The story has a fast pace, the characters are developed, and it is written in the first-person point of view from different perspectives. I thought the story was believable and the cultish leaders were charismatic as most are. The author describes the different locations as if he has been to them which made the story feel more realistic. If you liked the DaVinci Code and other books along this line, you may enjoy reading this book.
