22-year-old Amy Winters is found dead from a gunshot wound to the head. On her passenger seat is an organ donor letter. Her car is just across from the New York Medical Center and her body is brought there quickly to save her organs. Her parents do not believe she is an organ donor, and they say the signature is forged.
NYPD Captain John Spencer asks private detective, Kirk Miner to liaison with the FBI. Miner is known as “The Medical Detective.” FBI agent Charlotte Bloom is almost finished her two-year probationary period when she is assigned this case by Director Jack Mulville. While Bloom and Miner investigate, they notice a pattern emerging. Someone has compromised the organ transplant list and there are a series of suicides that begin to look suspicious considering recent developments. Charlotte has her own secret that if known may end her career before it really begins.
The story is fast paced, the characters are somewhat developed, and it is written in the third person point of view. There are past events that are alluded to that are not fleshed out in the story. It is possible we may learn more as the series continues. If you like strong women main characters, police investigations, or medical investigations, you will enjoy this book.
