Katherine is the Executrix for the Aestas Coven. They are notified of an unsettled witch (a witch born to non-magical parents) been detected. Katherine is sent to find her and bring her back to the coven. Lily is just a teenager. She was annoyed with her brother and snapped. Her magic flared and her brother was hurt. Now she is scared and wants someone to help her. The coven leader, Sylvia, agrees to take Lily to the camp they have for other unsettled witches. She talks with Lily about being able to help her get rid of her magic if that is what she truly wants. Next thing anyone knows is a mall in Los Angeles is on fire.
Silas Khatri is from Noctis. They are the leading coven in the United States and rule over all the other covens. He was ordered to go to Los Angeles and find a reason to take control of the Aestas coven. He is having a hard time doing that because they only have a minor infraction with their wards.
The book has a steady pace, the characters are developed, and it is written in the third person point of view.
