Dom, his two teenagers Raff and Finn along with nine-year-old Orly live on Shearwater, a tiny island near Antarctica. They have lived on this desolate island for eight years and have been the guardians of the lighthouse, research base, and a seed collection storage. Climate change is causing changes in the tides. The research center was abandoned. One day along the beach Finn finds a woman, Rowan, washed up in wreckage. Dom nurses her back to health. Everyone is wary. Dom thinks Rowan is lying about why she is there. Rowan does not trust anyone in the family. Everyone on the island is hiding something.
The book has a steady pace, the characters are well developed, and it is written in the third person point of view from different perspectives and voices. The multiple narrators give the characters life. If you like family dramas or general fiction with a bit of mystery, you may enjoy reading this book.
