This is the story of Hirka, a child of Odin, and Rime An-Elderin, a Ymling. They are completely opposite of each other and continually challenge each other. In Ym, everyone has tails and can connect to the Earth and feel the Might. Hirka has never been able to do either and does not have a tail. She has been teased her entire life. No one except her father knew her true origin. When she is fifteen, she must go with all the others to attend the Rite and be tested for the Might. She asks him to help her and they find that together the Might is stronger. Although she cannot call upon the Might, she can magnify it.
The story has a steady pace, the characters are developed and it is written in the third person. The book has a feeling of the nine worlds of Norse mythology. I was so engrossed in the story, I had to read the next two books. If you like sci fi and fantasy with a Norse theme, you will enjoy reading this book.
