Linus Baker is a social worker for the Department in Charge of Magical Youth. His job requires him to visit different locations to assess the conditions for the magical children. He lives a solitary life except for his cat Calliope. He receives a special assignment to visit an orphanage on an island to evaluate the six children and their caretaker, Arthur Parnassus. Linus is given no time to prepare and must leave the next morning to get to the island. He has no idea what he is walking into.
The book has a quick pace, the characters are very well developed, and it is written in the third person point of view. I must say the narrator really made the book for me. The way he is able to bring personality to all the characters is amazing. If you like Miss Peregrine’s Peculiar Children, you will enjoy this book. I already listened to a sneak peek for the next book in the series, Somewhere Beyond the Sea.
