Rites & Wrongs
Santa Fe police detective Pascal Ruiz becomes disenchanted with his job after solving the high-profile theft of a Stradivarius violin. That is until the captain asks him, off the record, to look into the disappearance of his niece’s boyfriend, Bobby Pilot.Pilot, staying out at Diamond Tail Ranch south of Santa Fe while his girlfriend has a part in a TV western, has been struggling to write an article on the Penitentes, a religious order known…

Pascal Ruiz is a detective with the Santa Fe police department. His partner is out on sick leave from appendix surgery. He is investigating the break in and theft of a theatrical costume. In addition, his Capitan asks him to look into the disappearance of his niece’s boyfriend. Pascal finds him in a canyon wearing a loincloth and hung on a cross almost dead.

The story is steady paced, and the characters are developed. It is written in third person point of view. Ruiz is a flawed individual and is over his head with the investigation. The author’s description of New Mexico is very detailed. I enjoyed reading the story and wondering what he would do next. The story ends abruptly hopefully setting up a second book.
