Emily and her cousin Erick are shopping for a cotillion dress for her 18th birthday. Brett, a longtime acquaintance shows up in the store unexpectedly. Emily believes he threw a martial arts match and thinks him a quitter. Brett has juvenile arthritis an extremely disease, but no one is aware of his condition. He has been in love with Emily for years but since she isn’t interested in him, he needs to find a way to vanquish her from his thoughts.

When leaving the mall, Emily is confronted by a vampire. Her family have been vampire Chasers for five generations, but she hasn’t reached an age to begin fighting them. Erick and Brett catch up with her as she is fighting and are each attacked. Emily and Erick know what is happening, but Brett is not a Chaser. He cannot understand why these guys won’t stay down.

The book is written in third person point of view and switches characters throughout. This is a novella in the Unholy Alliance series. It is a fast read with action and adventure. The story moves quickly, and the characters are developed.
