The sudden and unexpected arrival of a mysterious package interrupts Hat Tintersmoot's twelfth birthday. Where did it come from? Who left it? Once she discovers that the small cardboard box is a gift from her Grandpa Gordon, the mystery deepens...considering the fact that he passed away three years ago. The handwritten note reads, "Inside this box is an impossible mystery that only the purest of hearts can ever hope to uncover. Solve it, and you…

When Hat (Halcyone Acasia Tintersmoot) turns twelve a mysterious box arrives from her deceased grandfather. Inside the box is a golden egg and a clue for her to solve. She jumps right into solving it before going to her birthday party at the ice cream shop. On the way home, her father drives past a doughnut shop and it triggers a thought for Hat. She makes him turn around so she can go into the shop and speak to the owner.

It is fast paced and written in the first-person point of view. The characters are developed, and the story moves quickly. I read it in one sitting. It was a wonderful story and I look forward to reading more from this author.
