Fiction, Murder, Mystery, Suspense, Thriller, Police Procedural, International, Sweden

Two bear hunters come across a grizzly discovery. They find a brutally murdered woman with the word “whore” written in her own blood. No one knows where the woman’s grandson is. Prosecutor Rebecka Martinsson and police detective Anna Maria Mella send out the police dog hander, Krister Ericson, out to find him. The story bounces back and forth from the present to 1910s with the arrival of Elina Petterson, the young schoolteacher hired to teach for the coal miners’ children.

The two different story lines intertwine and have a steady pace, the characters are developed, and it is written in the third person point of view. This is the fifth book in the series, and I recommend you read them in order so you know the characters’ history. If you like Steig Larsson, you will enjoy reading this book.
