Mallory Mitchell is a thirty-something policewoman from Canada. She has time traveled to the body of a 19-year-old house maid in Victorian England. Her employer, Dr. Duncan Gray, is an undertaker.

In this book, Mallory and Dr. Gray are summoned to the home of Lady Adler late in the evening. When they arrive, it appears a séance had been going on. The medium Madam Paix told the attendees that the house maid, Nellie, was speaking. She had been murdered, and Dr. Duncan Gray must come and find her.

The story is fast paced, the characters are well developed, and it is written in the first-person point of view. Mallory is a strong woman character and while Duncan is a Victorian period man, he is a progressive thinker. I look forward to reading more of Mallory and Duncan’s antics in the next book. The narrator does a great job of bringing life to the different characters.
