A Picasso was recently stolen from a Parisian museum in a daytime heist. Bijan “Renoir” Reza is a prisoner known as a thief and terrorist. His cellmate, Dakota Black, was found guilty in the killing of Austin Winters. Austin ran Dakota off the road and caused the accident that killed Dakota’s girlfriend Jenny. Cody Winters is a recent addition to the prison. He is Austin’s brother and is obsessed with killing Dakota. There is a prison break. Reza made plans with Dakota to escape the prison and find the missing Picasso for the $4 million reward. Unknown to the two of them, Cody trails behind them and becomes a part of the team. Reza had to intervene several times to keep Cody from attacking Dakota.
Elizabeth Everett is an FBI agent. She is responsible for capturing Reza in the past. She is assigned to the prison breakout to find Reza. The FBI has information that a terrorist attack on a Jewish synagogue is imminent. She and her partner, Lorenzo, are one step behind as the escapees travel across the country.
The book has a steady pace, the characters are somewhat developed, and it is written in the third person point of view. The three main characters are all grieving someone. Dakota is grieving Jenny and the life they could have had together. Cody is grieving the death of his brother and lives for vengeance. Elizabeth is grieving her best friend Dixie who was killed in the line of duty. The two had a fight before her death and Liz never got to say she was sorry. If you like action and adventure stories, you may enjoy this one.
