Kim Ribbing, a tortured soul, has kidnapped his former doctor, Martin Rudbeck. He wanted to understand why the doctor performed the torturous treatments. Astrid Helander, the 14-year-old sole survivor of a massacre that occurred at her home, is staying with Kim on and off. She also knows Martin Rudbeck when he tried to perform testing on her. Julia Malmros, a former police superintendent and writer of crime fiction, is in a relationship with Kim. They met when Julia was writing a book and needed research regarding computer hacking. The three of them find themselves in an unpredictable situation and need to work together to find a way out. The whole time they are being investigated by Julia’s former husband, police superintendent Jonny Munther.
The book has a steady pace, the characters are well developed, and it is written in the third person point of view. This book has less adventure and travel than the first book. I found the ending to be rushed. I know there is a third book coming and am looking forward to reading it for closure. If you like Swedish mysteries, you will enjoy reading this book.
