Former detective AnnaLisa Vega has two cases. The first involves a missing ring. An elderly woman reports that a prized possession is missing and only 4 or 5 people could have taken it. In the second case, her brother, Alex, who has been in jail for 13 years, asks her to investigate the case of his cellmate, Joe Green. He says he was wrongfully accused. The man was accused of beating and killing his wife. As AnnaLisa begins to look into this case, new information surfaces that may prove the man innocent of that crime. That does not mean he isn’t guilty though.
The story has a fast pace, the characters are developed and very descriptive, and it is written in the third person point of view. I recommend reading the other books in the series first to understand why AnnaLisa is no longer a police detective. If you like books with a strong woman main character, you may enjoy reading this book.
