A Black man is killed by police after bringing a gun to city hall demanding his job back. Tom Tanner is a crime scene cleaner. A police officer thinks he recognizes Tanner but he quickly turns away. The next crime scene is in a hotel room. While cleaning, he finds a condom in a bible marking a passage. This is the third one he has found that the police missed. Now Tanner is asked to clean a gang hit off the books as a side job. He gets Ivy fired from the Candy Factory strip club. She asks to join him on a call. When he tells her about the bible and the condom, she wants to investigate it further. They find many images that link crime scenes together.
The story has a fast pace, the characters are not well developed, and it is written in the first person point of view. This was a quick read. It reminded me of a show, The Cleaner, on Britbox. If you like mysteries but with a bit of drug use and violent crime scenes, this might be a book for you.
