Major Gabriel Ramsey sends Electra “Ellie” McDonnell to Sutherland under a false story. She is supposed to be a niece dealing with a deceased aunt’s estate. When she gets off the train, someone pushes her into oncoming traffic. A young man grabs her and saves her life. Later when that same man is pushed into traffic and killed, Ellie begins looking into his life and who would want him dead and why. Someone is making fake identification cards and there are missing counterfeit plates. Poking around proves to be dangerous for both Ellie and Major Ramsey.
The story has a fast pace, the characters are developed, and it is written in the first-person point of view. Ellie is an independent young woman not afraid to speak her mind.
