A woman is found floating in the Thames. She is wearing an ornate bracelet with a lock. Her clothes are new and good quality. Her hair and nails were recently done. She has no identification. Major Gabriel Ramsey asks Electra “Ellie” McDonnell to come to the morgue and unlock the bracelet. Inside is a small spy camera. The Major asks Ellie her opinion about the woman. She begins looking into the clothes and finds the woman’s identification. She was living in a boarding house with several other young women. Could she have been a part of a German spy ring passing film and information. Ellie found information about her mother’s incarceration, but it has only brought more questions.
The story has a fast pace, the characters are developed, and it is written in the first-person point of view. Ellie is an independent young woman not afraid to speak her mind.
