Boreas, Maine. Charlie Parker is recovering from being shot. He died three times during surgery. He has rented a house near the rehabilitation center. There is another house next door that has just been rented to Ruth Wilson and her nine-year-old daughter. A man’s dead body is found at the shoreline near the two houses. Parker wonders if it is a sign and if so, who is it intended for Charlie or Ruth.

The story had a steady pace, the characters were developed, and it was written in two different perspectives. This is a continuation from the last book, The Wolf in Winter. If you like mystery thrillers with historical fiction thrown in, you will enjoy this book.
