Prosperous, Maine is an old town and its secret even older. Annie Boyer, a recovering addict, was offered a house cleaning job for an older couple. She was picked up in a blue car and never seen again. Her father, Jude, concerned for her welfare began looking for her. Being homeless, he called in all his outstanding loans to other homeless to hire Charlie Parker, a private detective. By the time Charlie reaches Jude, he was found hanging in the basement. His death was ruled a suicide, but Charlie is not convinced.

Charlie goes to Prosperous looking for Annie. This is the beginning of his downfall. Events begin to spiral out of control fast, leaving a trail of unexpected deaths and sorrow in its wake. Will Charlie just be a casualty of this town and its malevolent entity.

The Collector, a serial killer makes an appearance in the book along with Charlie’s friends Louie, and Angel. The book has a steady pace, the characters are developed, and it is written in two different perspectives – first and third points of view. The town and its inhabitants are very reminiscent of Stephen King. It is well written and made me want to read more from this author.
