Before he turns eighteen, his parents tell him he must sign up with the Germans in a building unit to keep him out of an active duty. When he is going to his first post, there is an explosion and becomes a driver for General Leyers.

This is a beautiful book. The writer describes the historic times so the reader feels a part of the story. It has a steady pace, the characters are well developed, and it is written in the third person point of view. The author has a wonderful eye for details and emotion. If you like reading historic fiction or nonfiction relating to World War II, you will enjoy this book.
