Fable is a young woman. Only one of three survivors of a shipwreck. Her father, Saint, is a powerful trader with many ships under his control. She finally finds her way off the island on a ship named, The Marigold. The helmsman is an old friend, Wes. He is angry when he sees her. He does not want to be responsible for her wellbeing. He knows who her father is and does not want to face his wrath.

The book has a fast pace, the characters are somewhat developed, and it is written in the first-person point of view. Fable is looking for a family since her father abandoned her and her father died in the shipwreck. She needs to prove to herself and others that she has worth. The book reminds me of a feminist version of Pirates of the Caribbean. The World of Narrows series are other books set in this same world. A prelude book, Saint, and a sequel, Namesake. If you like books ships and shady trade deals, you will enjoy this one.
