Mexican Gothic Book Club Kit

When I saw this book club kit, I decided to read the book at the same time. I appreciated the extra time the author gave in providing the historical information about the Mexican mining towns and the infiltration of the Spaniards and the British. The discussion questions were good starting off points with a group. They make the reader go deeper into the book. The Spotify playlist was amazing. The music was haunting and made me feel the dark ambience of the High Place setting.

The image of the snake eating its tail was a little disturbing. I love traditional ouroboros images but this one was spooky or creepy – perfect for this book. Reading about gothic stories from the 1960s and 1970s made me smile. I love and have all Phyllis Whitney books and most Victoria Holt books. The premise of those books compares to this one – a girl in an isolated place that needs rescuing. I absolutely love the paper dolls. It gives the reader a real glimpse into Noemi and her fashion statements.
