Celeste and Anais are Fee Gardinere, a new name for fairy godmothers. They are traveling from California to New York so they can return to Franc. They are carrying the elder staff that belonged to Doree before she passed on and Celeste ascended. While stopping to help a man, the elder staff glamoured to look like a clarinet was stolen. They followed the boy that stole it to a bookstore but there was no one inside. Anais realized the store was veiled and went back that night only to find the building was really a speak easy. She is spotted inside by one of the thieves and is kidnapped. Celeste not trusting Anais followed her. Now she must find a way to rescue Anais so they can retrieve the relic.
The book has a steady pace, the characters are developed, and it is written in the third person point of view. There are dream augers, stage magicians, and psychics. What is not to like? If you like magical fairy tales, you will enjoy reading this book series.
