Trigger warning: rape and sexual abuse
Anca, a Romanian woman, has a seizure on a train. She has a seizure plan around her neck so someone would know what to do. She looks around to see if anyone is there to help her. She sees a woman that appears concerned, but she gets off the train at the next stop. Anca goes into a full seizure. No one helps her. A group of four men find her. They drag her to their place and sexually abuse her.
Monica, the woman on the train with Anca, had an appointment with Luke Devine, a millionaire and high-level fixer. She tells him about what she saw on the train. Luke calls Evan Smoak, Orphan X, also known as the Nowhere Man. Evan flies from the West Coast and begins looking for Anca. Once he finds her, he gets her the help she needs without being threatening. He tells her he is going to find the men who hurt her. She makes him promise not to kill them. Evan asks Candy, Orphan V, if she can help him with Anca. He also brings his trainee, Josephine “Joey” Morales, to hack the porn sites that posted the attack.
The book has a fast pace, the characters are very developed, and it is written in the third person point of view. This is the 11th book in the Orphan X series. It is best to be read in order so you understand the supporting characters in the story. Evan Smoak is one of my favorite fictional characters. I hope that if I ever need someone’s help that Evan is there.
