Princess Hermine Reuss of Greiz first met Wilhelm II when she was a teenager. She idolized him and said she wanted to marry him. He married and had six sons and a daughter before his wife Auguste Viktoria died. Hermine also married and had three sons and two daughters and was widowed after her husband, Prince Johann of Schonaich-Carolath, succumbed to his lifelong disease. Wilhelm II courted Hermine long distance since by that time he was in exile in Doorn, Netherlands. They married in 1922.
The author provided much detail of Hermine’s life in exile and travels to Germany. Hermine became friendly with Adolf Hitler and was in favor of the Nazi regime. She believed Hitler would help restore the monarchy to Germany. If you are interested in German history, this book may provide information on a lesser-known figure.
