A dangerous man starts hanging out around the Nightingale speakeasy. He is asking about a man named Hugh Brown, but no one recognizes the name. The man begins to threaten the owner, Honor Huxley, and waitress, Vivian Kelly. When Vivian’s friends and family are threatened, she takes matters into her own hands. She needs to find the real identity of Hugh Brown before people start getting killed.
The story has a fast pace, the characters are developed, and it is written in the third person point of view. This is Manhattan in 1925 during prohibition. It is a dangerous time for a young Black woman and mixed-race relationships. If you like historical fiction with a mix of gangsters, drinking, and dancing, you may enjoy reading this book.
