Willa finally learns the truth about her family. Her grandmother moves into the house with the rest of her family. The relationship between mother and grandmother is frosty. Willa learns her grandfather fell in love with a mermaid and her mother is their child. When her grandmother wanted to leave, she cursed her grandfather that he would not be able to catch any more fish. Now that Willa knows the truth, she tests her theory and realizes she can swim underwater. She follows a rope underwater and comes up in a well. She meets a young woman from a different time. They are also looking for the dark thing. Together they must work to defeat it at both ends.
The book has a steady pace, the characters are developed and it is written in the third person point of view. This is the third and final book in the Eldritch Manor series and they need to be read in order. I thought the first two books were better than this one. If you like young adult fantasy books, you may enjoy reading this book.
