Ava is home from the human Blood Race at Circo. She feels unsafe and distrusts everyone. She finds out her Klujn friend, Diablo, is still alive but is scheduled to die. Her mother, Diana, warns her to go on the Scouts trip and not to come back home. She is captured trying to free Diablo. She makes a deal with Leader Grouse to kill Warwick, King of the Klujns, and return with his heart. He agrees but she must return within 6-8 weeks. It seems an impossible task, but she must accept.
The book has a descriptive and steady pace, the characters are developed, and it is written in the first-person point of view. This is the second book in the series. The end of the book leaves another book a possibility.
