Emma just turned 18 years old. She is the last child allowed to be born in Territory L (low income). President Esther, president for life, decreed that low-income people could not afford to take care of children. Anyone found breaking this law was either sent to prison or put to death. At the celebration of her 18th birthday party, the president gives Emma a prepared speech in pure Katniss of the Hunger Games, she speaks her truth. When she is finished, she is arrested and thrown in jail for thirty days. She is befriended by two guards, Eric and Samuel. With a few days left in her sentence, the president makes her an offer: become a guard and be loyal to her or go to prison for life.

The story. Is fast paced, the characters are developed, and it is written in the first-person point of view. This book is set in a future dystopian world that has been separated by classes (Territory L – low class, Territory M – middle class, Territory U – upper class). There are parts that remind me of other dystopian books. Emma is a young leader in this world like Katniss in the Hunger Games trilogy.
