A woman is found dead outside the Nightingale speakeasy, poisoned by hemlock. Vivian Kelly and Honor Huxley become entangled in the investigation when it becomes clear the killer has ties to their world of bootlegging and secrets. As more people connected to the speakeasy come under suspicion, Vivian must use everything she has learned to find the truth before more lives are lost.

The story has a steady pace, the characters are well developed, and it is written in the third person point of view. This is another strong entry in the series, continuing to explore Prohibition-era Manhattan through the eyes of a young Black woman navigating danger, love, and identity. If you enjoyed the earlier books in this series, you will enjoy this one as well.
