Four friends gather for a grouse shooting event. Sandy, always the lord of the manor, wears a tartan kilt, sporran, socks and black leather shoes. As the host of these events, he loves to have others bending to him. He takes advantage of the innkeepers and friends. In the early hours of the morning, Sandy is shot dead. A hunt begins for the killer, but he has disappeared. DCI Jim Oldroyd and his two sergeants are assigned the case.
The book has a steady pace, the characters are developed, and it is written in the third person point of view. The book reminds me of an episode of Midsomer Murders. The setting is a lovely idyllic Yorkshire countryside. If you like British murder mysteries, you may enjoy reading this one.
