The English were rescuing African children from being “uncivilized.” Sarah Forbes Bonetta (Sally) was an African princess rescued from her Egbado tribe after the English killed the others. She was sent to a school to learn and become civilized with others. The Queen collected godchildren from different colonies. Sally plays the obedient subject but is doing everything she can to destroy the people who killed her family and brought her to England. She will not stop her revenge until she brings down the monarchy.
The book has a steady pace, the characters are developed, and it is written in the first-person point of view. This is loosely based on a true story. It is a harsh reality to read about the way the world was colonized and how the indigenous people were treated.
