The story begins with a dinner party celebrating midsummer 2019. The people attending are prominent leaders from the EU and China. The hosts’ 14-year-old daughter, Astrid, is not interested in the party and is on a Facetime call with Algot, a schoolmate. A motorboat approaches the dock and begins shooting. Astrid is the sole survivor.
Julia Malmros is a former police investigator turned writer. She is asked to continue the popular “Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” Millennium series. She needs help with the computer hacking details, and her publisher sends her someone. Kim Ribbing, a young hacker, is eccentric and a tortured soul, figuratively and literally. He begins working with Julia and together they are thrown into the investigation of the massacre at the dock. The investigation takes Kim on a worldwide trip. He uncovers the reason behind the massacre and must find a way to save Astrid before she is tortured in the same way he was treated.
The book has a fast pace, the characters are well developed, and it is written in the third person point of view. If you like books with an international theme, you may like this book.
