Alba, a young woman in 1908, lives on her family farm. Her father recently died and she wishes her uncle will come. After his arrival, it seems as if the land is cursed. Alba needs to use her wits and her innate power to save herself. Minerva is Alba’s great granddaughter. She is a grad student studying at a school in 1989 New England. She is intrigued by the writings and history of Beatrice Tremblay, a horror writer. Minerva gains access to Beatrice’s journal and unpublished novella. In the journal she learns of the disappearance of Virginia Somerset in 1934. Minerva must unravel the clues before disaster befalls her.
The book has a steady pace, the characters are developed, and it is written in the third person point of view except for the journal entries. This certainly has some eeriness in the writing. If you like other books by this author, you will not be disappointed.
