Bird’s father owns Wildwood Manor House, an estate in the countryside. Every summer he hosts a party for his corporate colleagues. This coming weekend is his 60th birthday and Bird knows this will be one of his more elaborate galas. She invites her friend Amba to join since her father will also be attending. Bird has known Amba her whole life and secretly wishes for more than friendship, but the timing hasn’t been right. Bird also lost her mother a decade ago and this is a difficult time of year for her. She heads to the pub for a drink before the party and meets April. She feels an instant connection to her and asks her to be her date to the party. There is a killer among the guests, and it appears Bird might be the intended target.
The story has a fast pace, the characters are developed, and it is written in the first-person point of view. If you like mysteries and thrillers with unexpected twists, you may enjoy reading this book.
