Georgette Louise Meyer disregarded societal norms. She became a photojournalist in WWII. She disobeyed a military command and had her credentials rescinded. She trained with the marines and eventually had her credentials reinstated. She was held hostage for more than sixty days when she was in Hungary trying to bring medication to refugees. She also trained as a paratrooper and proudly wore her wings. She was an amazing woman.
I did not know her story before reading this book. Although this book is classified as fiction, it is based on the true story of the woman who became Dickey Chapelle. She certainly showed us the lives of others through her pictures. You can search for her photographs online.
